One App – Many Settings: DENALI CANsmart Software for CAN Bus Accessory Controller

CANsmart Software Overview

v2004.2 (updated July 2020)

All settings for the DENALI CANsmart CAN Bus Accessory Controllers are designed to be customised through DENALI’s super-intuitive CANsmart™ Accessory Manager Software. Here is, where you can set circuit fuse settings, try different brake light flash modes, and adjust the sensitivity and speed threshold of the deceleration activated braking feature.

One word of advice: before you change any settings, you might want to make a note of what the settings said before you changed it… (just saying)

What is new with the latest CANsmart Software?

The latest version v2004.2 includes:

  • new amber turn signal functionality
  • new red run/brake/turn signal functionality
  • new “flash aux lights” as a turn signal feature
  • and a new diagnostic window with some nice ontop functionality

The default settings

This is your main screen, the home screen of the CANsmart Software, and you see the default settings here. Top row shows you the four circuits and also, what motorbike accessory type you have selected for those circuits. i.e. in the screenshot you see, that you have 2 different sets of auxiliary lights on the red circuit. Means also, you now can configure those lights separately, which is one of the major reasons why we think this update is great! So here the software allows you to have a look at all your accessory settings and to change them.

The Circuit Function Selector Allows to Configure Your Accessories

Any of the 4 circuits you got can be chosen via this Circuit Function Selector. Just click on a circuit at the top of your home screen, you will see a drop down menu opening which shows you all the available circuit functions for that circuit. You just need to select, what kind of accessory you want to run on that particular circuit. And then read on to see what settings are available.

More Accessory Features and Settings

As said, the default accessory options are showing on the home screen screenshot above. This includes auxiliary lights (both, pair or split), auxiliary brake lights and horn accessory options. But there is more to customise via the CANsmart Software…

Settings for your Turn Signals

The turn signal circuit allows the addition of an auxiliary turn signal, without having to tap into your bikes factory turn signal harness. This is the ideal option for powering DENALI’s amber DRLs. In the settings window you can choose whether you want the turn signal to run and flash or flash only. You can also set the running light and flash intensity between 0-100%.

Run – Brake – Turn Signal Settings

This circuit function will transform a simple 2-wire LED light into a full-featured red run/brake/turn light for use at the rear of your bike. Thanks to this circuit you can add a red auxiliary brake light (with turn signal and flash pattern braking), again, without having to tap into your bikes factory turn signal or brake harness. Perfect for powering DENALI’s dual B6 Brake License Plate Brake Lights.

Universal Motorbike Accessory Settings

The accessory/ignition supply circuit function will provide a simple switched 12V power to an accessory of your choice when the motorcycles ignition is turned on. The app allows you to set your accessory to have a delayed time-out or opt for it to shut off immediately with your ignition.

The New Diagnostic Window

You can open the diagnostics window from the main menu. The diagnostics window provides an overall view of your systems power consumption, battery/CAN bus voltage and device temperature. You can test each circuit by sliding the slider underneath the circuit name. Obviously, the unit must be connected to the battery or another source of 12V DC power in order to use the circuit test feature. As soon as you close the diagnostics window, your circuits will revert to normal operation.

I have a Denali cansmart fitted to my BMW R1200gsa 2014, I have a pair of Denali spots in the location of the original ones and attached to the 2nd accessory circuit on the cansmart, how can I operate these from the original switch at the base of my near side mirror as original.
